I was one who said Venice, see it before it is gone. But, someone mentioned Pisa, you should see that too
whatever your choose wherever you go you will love it all
Daniela
Thing is that I’ve been to Venice and also Pisa. Venice may be too complicated with my toddler and tbh, I didn’t love Pisa so I’m leaning towards Siena. I also heard the Amalfi Coast is gorgeous so maybe on our way to Rome:)
Linda
Yes, AMALFI COAST!!!!!! And send me pictures because I want to go there
seriously thoigh, if you find good and inexpensive accommodation there, let me/us know how it was on your return
Daniela
Linda I’ll probably just spend the day there if it’s on the way to Rome from Florence. I still have to figure things out though
Daniela
Sharon Ebid that’s great advice, thanks!!! We’ll probably end up doing that then. Hope you enjoyed Italy!

Day Trips from Florence and Rome with a Toddler
Day Trips from Florence
Florence is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside and nearby towns. Here are some recommended day trips from Florence with a toddler:
- Pisa: Just an hour's train ride from Florence, you can visit the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and the beautiful Pisa Cathedral. The cathedral's square (Campo dei Miracoli) is a great place for your little one to run around and explore.
- Siena: This medieval hilltop town is about an hour and a half's drive from Florence. Stroll through the charming streets, visit the impressive Siena Cathedral, and let your toddler burn off some energy in the Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy.
- San Gimignano: Known for its medieval towers, San Gimignano is a picturesque walled town about an hour's drive from Florence. Explore the narrow streets, enjoy gelato, and visit the Rocca di Montestaffoli, a hilltop fortress with beautiful views.
Day Trips from Rome
Rome is a fantastic city for families, and there are many great day trip options for those traveling with a toddler:
- Tivoli: Just an hour's train ride from Rome, Tivoli is home to the stunning Renaissance-era Villa d'Este and its beautiful gardens. Your little one will love exploring the fountains and nooks of the villa's gardens.
- Ostia Antica: This ancient Roman port city, located about 30 minutes from Rome, is a great place to explore with kids. The well-preserved ruins, including streets, houses, and temples, are stroller-friendly and provide a glimpse into ancient Roman life.
- Castel Gandolfo: This charming lakeside town is a popular summer retreat for Romans and the location of the Pope's summer residence. Spend a day strolling through the town, visiting the Papal Palace, and enjoying the beautiful views of Lake Albano.
No matter which day trips you choose, be sure to pack snacks, toys, and activities to keep your little one entertained during travel and downtime. With some planning and patience, these day trips can be great adventures for the whole family!
