Where Can We Go for a Unique Family Vacation in 2022?

Question:

Profile picture of Sue

Sue

Looking for ideas for a great family vacation for the end of 2022. We don't want the usual places like Mexico, Hawaii, Vegas, or Disneyland. My daughter is graduating and it's my 50th birthday. Looking for a fun family vacation location that has good weather.

Costa Rica is the most uninteresting place I've ever been to in the 40 or so countries I've travelled to. I prefer Guatemala in comparison. CR is very Americanized, has almost no local culture and the main city is too dangerous to walk around at night alone. Apart from my hoity-toity American owned yoga retreat, I don't know why I went.

Profile picture of Carey

Jill Yewell totally agree! An expensive compared to Mexico or other central and S American countries. Overrated.

Get a life people. At the end of 2022, we will be able to travel where eveer we want without retrictions. I recommended the southern part of Mexico. Have been in Puerto Escodido, with it's amazing beach, Palenque, with the most beautiful and interesting Mayan ruins, which are in the jungle and San Christobal de las Casas a wonderful village in the mountains.

Profile picture of Susan

Tracy the scenery literally evoked gasps as we turned every corner. The country is pristine. No billboards, wires or even buildings. The camping was outstanding. going to random fields to find hot streams to splash around in or pools in every town without exception where coffee and Danishes our served as you relax in the hot water. People are very friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect.

There's so many places but it really does depend on what type of holiday, ages and budget etc.
S.E. Asia has lot of choices.
Costa Rica was great but so was Aftica, Peru, Ecuador, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal...the options are endless!

Profile picture of Martin

Martin

It’s tough to answer without knowing your budget or the ‘style’ of travel you prefer. For ease I’d say Costa Rica... always a better option than Mexico and better value than Hawaii. Vietnam is amazing value with lots to offer and safe (fewer tourists than Thailand under normal conditions). Further afield and more $$ - Seychelles (for a pure lazy in the sun kinda vacation). And well, one can never go wrong with island hopping in Greece.

Congratulations on looking ahead. I suggest instead you plan a big get together at your home for your 50th. Take over a restaurant for two hours and invite special friends you haven’t seen for years. I did this for my 60th and paying for dinner and limited drinks was so much fun. Some friends drove 500 km. Invite people afterwards for dessert in your home. Everyone had a great time.
For you and your daughter I suggest you rent a posh place on the island for 4 days. Torino maybe. Walk on the beach, do a jigsaw puzzle but basically just be together
Travel is wonderful but not essential to making a memory that is special

Profile picture of Christin

Christin

I think it’s a personal choice, I’d take a trip/memories/experiences over paying for a whole bunch of people to dine for any bday haha.

Profile picture of Dave

Dave

Christin that is absolutely true. In my case I couldn’t travel as I had just had to start kidney dialysis 3 days a week and having everyone together to show care just at that time was the best choice for me. All the best wishes to you.

April Vietnam is my favorite as well. Unfortunately, if we are looking at 2022, chances are, they will require strict quarantine protocol as there's very little chance that pandemic will end before then. Vietnam has much more strict regulation put in place compared to other places, and this is why it's one of the most successful nation that prevented spread of COVID-19 despite being so close to ground zero China

Shannon take a shower after taking group taxis.. amount of polluted emission old cars on the road emits, when I took a shower, the shower water literally turned into black. Also, don't forget to blow your nose after.. or better, pandemic or not, wear masks when taking group taxis (many old cars don't have air conditioning and you are forced to keep windows open). Avoid anyone friendly that speaks perfect English. 99% they are con artists. Stick to locals, learn few Spanish and try to communicate in their language. They are amazing and friendliest people I met while traveling.

Unique Family Vacation Ideas for End of 2022

As the year winds down and you're looking to celebrate your daughter's graduation and your 50th birthday, why not consider a unique family vacation destination that breaks away from the typical tourist traps? Here are some ideas to explore:

Costa Rica

Costa Rica offers a perfect blend of adventure, nature, and relaxation. With its lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and numerous outdoor activities, it's an ideal spot for families seeking an active yet serene getaway. You can explore the cloud forests of Monteverde, soak in the natural hot springs of Arenal Volcano, or simply bask in the sun at Manuel Antonio National Park.

New Zealand

For a truly unforgettable experience, consider a trip to New Zealand. This stunning country boasts breathtaking landscapes, from the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps to the pristine beaches of the North Island. Explore the geothermal wonders of Rotorua, embark on a Lord of the Rings-inspired tour, or indulge in the vibrant food and wine culture of Marlborough.

Yellowstone National Park

If you're looking for an adventure closer to home, consider a trip to Yellowstone National Park. This iconic park, spanning parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, offers incredible natural wonders like Old Faithful geyser, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and abundant wildlife. You can hike, camp, and immerse yourselves in the park's stunning scenery.

Portugal

Portugal is a hidden gem in Europe, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Explore the vibrant cities of Lisbon and Porto, with their colorful architecture and delicious cuisine. Venture out to the Algarve region for its stunning beaches and quaint fishing villages, or head to the Douro Valley for a wine-tasting adventure.

No matter where you decide to go, remember to plan ahead, research your destination thoroughly, and create an itinerary that caters to your family's interests and preferences. Most importantly, cherish the time spent together, making lasting memories to celebrate this special occasion.
