Which stops are your ports of call? Use your street smarts. Leave expensive jewelry on the ship. do not leave expensive cameras in plain view. Travel in numbers when doing land excursions and perhaps carry a money belt. I find that southern Mexico is fine.

I believe the cruise line would alter ports of call if there was increased risk due to recent events. It should be fine...better than traveling by car within the country.

Puerto vallarta and Cabo san lucas is not mayan riviera. South & Southern of Mexico are safer. Stay away from the states of Sinaloa (Mazatlan is in this state) & Jalisco (Guadalajara and I would be cautious in Puerto Vallarta) it is not matter of being in groups but aware of your surroundings and if any violance, this is never against you so just leave the area. Also some people are not knowledgeable about the situation and recommend money belts, again, these are acts of protest to the government not you, so they don't seek your money

If you are doing PV and Cabo San Lucas you will be absolutely fine! We just got back from San Jose del Cabo near San Lucas and you have nothing to worry about. completely safe you can walk the streets, shop and check out the local bars and eateries. take a boat cruise out to El Arco, or a day trip up to Chileano Beach for snorkeling, or just walk Medano Beach to Tabasco's bar and book a catamaran 1 hour cruise out past the Arch. Lots to do and lots of fun to be had.

It is the cruise lines responsibility to keep their passengers safe....which means they will not stop at a port of it's too dangerous. When I used to work on board ships this has happened a couple of times. Passengers were upset...but why take the chance?
