We had our home base in Reykjavik (we rented an apartment) and rented a small car and did long day trips all over Iceland, it was very affordable and fun!

we also used Reykjavik as our home base and rented a car. The last day we booked the blue lagoon which has airport shuttle with it. Perfect way to relax before your flight

We landed at 6 AM after an overnight flight and we couldn't get into our apartment until 2 pm, so we went to The Blue Lagoon as soon as we got our rental car. Lovely way to unwind after travelling. Going before your flight home would be nice an relaxing as well. Either way, I think it is a "must do" while in Iceland.

I did 5 days and stayed in Reykjavik. You can easily do day trips from there. There are many day excursions available from the city. I did the golden circle tour, a southern iceland tour to see Vik and the black sand beaches, as well as a northern lights tour. I also did the blue lagoon which can be done on your way to or back from the airport. You can squeeze in alot if you are open to these long day excursions.

We airbnb’s it in Reykjavik and rented a vehicle for our day trips. For that short amount of time you can do the Golden Circle one day, then drive to the Snæfellsbær area for the day. Then one day to explore the city

We stayed in Reykjavik at an airbnb and rented a car to drive around and do day trips from there. It was perfect!

Weather is still sketchy in Iceland in April (still winter). I'd pick Reykjavik as a home base to take daytrips from to the South coast and West (Snaefellsnes peninsula) when the weather is nice.

Be aware, food and accommodation are pretty expensive. Take winter and rain clothing. It is a very windy island.

Perla Le airbnb was a great big saver for us then you can get some groceries at Bonus if need be. Yes food is expensive but having a kitchen helps

I did 5 days, 4 nights in May last year. Stayed in Reykjavik, Fludir, Skalafel (near the glacier lagoon) and finally in Hella. It was great. Wish I had had half a day more for Reykjavik.

Sedona and Grand Canyon. Bring warm clothing visiting the GC as the temperatures could get very cold.

Iceland in 4 Nights and 5 Days

Iceland is a breathtakingly beautiful country with diverse landscapes, from rugged glaciers to steaming hot springs. If you have 4 nights and 5 days to explore this incredible destination, here's a suggested itinerary to help you make the most of your time.

Day 1: Reykjavík and the Golden Circle

Start your journey in Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland. Explore its charming streets, colorful houses, and vibrant culture. Visit iconic landmarks like Hallgrímskirkja Church and the Sun Voyager sculpture. In the afternoon, embark on the famous Golden Circle route, which includes the Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and the majestic Gullfoss waterfall.

Day 2: South Coast and Vík

Head east along the scenic South Coast, stopping at the stunning Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Continue to the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, where you'll find unique rock formations and opportunities for bird watching. End your day in the charming village of Vík, known for its dramatic cliffs and scenic surroundings.

Day 3: Vatnajökull National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Venture into the heart of Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe's largest glacier. Visit the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you can witness icebergs floating in the serene waters. Take a boat tour or a guided hike on the glacier for an unforgettable experience. Spend the night in the nearby town of Höfn or Vík.

Day 4: Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Explore the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often referred to as "Iceland in miniature." Visit charming fishing villages, black sand beaches, and the iconic Kirkjufell mountain, one of the most photographed landmarks in Iceland. Take a detour to the Lóndrangar basalt cliffs and the Arnarstapi harbor for breathtaking coastal views.

Day 5: Reykjavík and Departure

Spend your final day in Reykjavík, exploring any attractions or neighborhoods you missed on the first day. Visit museums, indulge in Icelandic cuisine, or relax at one of the city's geothermal pools before heading to the airport for your departure.

Remember, this is just a suggested itinerary, and you can adjust it based on your interests and preferences. Iceland offers countless natural wonders and cultural experiences, so be sure to leave room for spontaneity and exploration.
