Went Oct/16. Book your cruise when you get to Ecuador. We booked ten days before and saved $1000. If you wait till you get to the islands you might even save more. Every shop was advertising discount last minute cruises. There's lots of guest houses at Santa Cruz to stay at for reasonable cost. And we took the ferry to Isabella Island for two nights and back. Do the lava tunnel boat tour on Isabella. Taxis are cheap so it's easy to get around.

Galápagos Islands is in Ecuador. Spent 3 weeks on the mainland travelling by bus and saw fabulous nature and loved Cuenca. Ten days on Galápagos Islands was perfect, with a four night, five day cruise. Not to be missed!

Visiting the Galapagos Islands on a Budget
The Galapagos Islands are a once-in-a-lifetime destination, but they can also be expensive to visit. However, there are ways to experience the islands on a budget. Here are a few tips:
- Travel during the off-season. The Galapagos Islands are busiest during the summer months (December to May). If you can travel during the off-season (June to November), you'll be able to find better deals on flights and accommodations.
- Stay in hostels. Hostels are a great way to save money on accommodations in the Galapagos Islands. There are a number of hostels located in Puerto Ayora, the main town on Santa Cruz Island. Hostels typically offer dorm rooms, which can be shared with other travelers.
- Eat at local restaurants. The Galapagos Islands are home to a number of local restaurants that offer delicious and affordable meals. These restaurants typically serve traditional Ecuadorian dishes, such as ceviche and empanadas.
- Take advantage of free activities. There are a number of free activities available in the Galapagos Islands, such as hiking, swimming, and snorkeling. You can also visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, which is free to enter.
- Bring your own gear. If you plan on doing any snorkeling or diving, it's a good idea to bring your own gear. This will save you money on rental fees.
By following these tips, you can experience the Galapagos Islands on a budget. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip today!
