Wondering Which NYC Pass is Worth the Money?

Question:

New York.
I know there has been a lot of posts but I am trying to navigate my way around all these pass options (groupons, costco etc) My husband and I are taking a 4 day break from the kids and we want to see as many of the main attractions as we can. Not interested in museums as much but like everything else. What is the best bang for your buck new york city pass?

We went in July. Didn't buy any passes except for a metro card. The Staten Island ferry is free, so you can see the statue of liberty. MoMA is free on friday nights. The 99 cent pizza is good, as are the halal guys carts. Really, we just walked around and stumbled across pop up street markets and so much more. The tourists that I talked to who had bought passes spent most of their time standing in lineups...

Best bang would be the City Pass for sure. We didn’t buy any when we were there as what we were planning on doing weren’t included. Helicopter ride over Manhattan, tour of Harlem, etc.
The first time there we saw some shows on broadway and wandered around all hours of the night, exploring.
One World is a must see.

I went in September in 2013 and we went for a day trip from Boston left on the first bus and left on the last bus back. Where the bus dropped us off was near a White Castle let’s just say I got heart burn and I had to get gingerale. Got some souvenirs across the street. We only paid for the subway once to get to one place as it was 30 min walk. The rest of the stuff we walked to. The only places we paid for and wanted to see was the Statue of Liberty and we lined up for the rock which wasn’t that big of a line up lol. We got lucky and just happen to walk into things Central Park, Manhattan, etc

Wear the most comfortable shoes ever, walk as much as you can. Central Park is free and one of the most entertaining places in the city if you like people watching. I could JUST do Central Park.

We bought the city pass from costco. It works well because it's in CAD. We are here right now, I am actually sitting in the Met museum. We had some time to kill so we came here. Museums are not really our thing but since admission was free with the city pass we figured, why not? Some of the other passes get you admission into more things but in 4 days, unless you walk yourself to death everyday, you may not get your money's worth. City pass from Costco.ca gets my vote. And yes a 7 day unlimited metro pass for the subway is a must!

I echo the comments about being prepared with comfy shoes. We loved the MOMA, and took in a Broadway show. We did the city pass and thought it worthwhile also the subway pass...have fun

We walked a lot, it’s a great city to navigate and walk from site to site. We did a hop on hop off bus just to get around a bit and the subway and a cab once.

We bought our passes online at Costco before going and it was great. Saw all of the highlights and also went to Central Park and rented bikes

Top floor reading room of the NY Public Library is architecture at it’s finest. As is Grand Central Station and the Empire State Building. Wall St. is interesting, esp the historical church at the head of it. Walking the High Line Park is also cool.

City pass: If you have enough air miles, we got ours from there and didn’t have to pay a cent to go to all the sites!!

Take the free Staten Island ferry to get a glimpse of Liberty. She’s better viewed from afar anyway in my humble opinion.

The Best New York City Pass for Your Buck

New York City is a vibrant and exciting city with something to offer everyone. But with so much to see and do, it can be hard to know where to start. And if you're on a budget, you'll want to make sure you're getting the most bang for your buck.

One of the best ways to save money on New York City attractions is to purchase a city pass. These passes give you access to multiple attractions for one low price. There are several different city passes available, so it's important to do your research and choose the one that's right for you.

If you're not interested in museums, you may want to consider the New York CityPASS. This pass gives you access to six popular attractions, including the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and the American Museum of Natural History. The pass is valid for nine days, so you'll have plenty of time to see all the attractions.

Another option is the Explorer Pass. This pass allows you to choose three, four, five, seven, or ten attractions from a list of over 90 options. This is a great option if you're interested in seeing a variety of attractions, including museums.

No matter which city pass you choose, you're sure to save money on your New York City vacation. So do your research and find the pass that's right for you.

Here are some tips for getting the most out of your New York City pass:

  • Plan your itinerary ahead of time. This will help you make the most of your time and avoid wasting money on attractions you don't have time to see.
  • Take advantage of the pass's discounts. Many city passes offer discounts on food, shopping, and other activities.
  • Be flexible. Sometimes, you may have to adjust your itinerary based on weather or other factors. Don't be afraid to change your plans if necessary.

With a little planning, you can use your New York City pass to have an amazing vacation without breaking the bank.
