Thinking about trying Swoop for your next trip to Vegas?

Question:

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

We just returned from a quick weekend trip to Vegas.
Used swoop for the first time and it was honestly great. We had zero issues. Flight was on time, everything was a smooth process. Would easily use again as we saved so much $$
Just wanted to provide some positive feedback if anyone is on the fence about booking with them (I was so nervous as I have never used them before)
Happy travelling!!!!

All airlines have issues but swoops only big drawback seems to be the frequency that they cancel flights and try and shorten your trip.

Profile picture of Allison

Allison

Elwyn not awesome, but they're not the only one of the smaller carriers that does this. Transat have done this to me twice.

Profile picture of Elwyn

Elwyn

Allison air canada have changed my April flights to and from Italy 5 times.
west jet changed my Mazatlan flight twice.
swoop change my August 2021 Victoria flights 3 times but the flights were great!

Profile picture of Danielle

Danielle

Yup swoop did this to me twice. I won't use them again

Profile picture of Bash

Bash

swoop is hit or miss. Sometimes great and sometimes terrible.
In January my flight from Toronto to Edmonton was cancelled 3 days in a row without warning

Profile picture of Leann

Leann

Bash agreed. Similar to Flair, it is great if all goes well and they don’t cancel your flight. They are not part of the Star Alliance which won’t allow you to rebook with another airline without paying extra $$$.

Profile picture of Pamela

Pamela

swoop did cancel a flight home next week, but we are on one day earlier, no problem. We have flown a few times now YEG to MESA airport. Love the simplicity. Less than 3 hours and so easy to get off, get bags and get out of the airport. Love it.

Profile picture of Alyne

Alyne

Phew good to hear. I have them booked twice for July to Vancouver and October to the East Coast… i’ve heard lots of bad things about missed flights! Thanks

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

Alyne Boutilier I find that people are always quick to post reviews about the negative which made me so nervous as well. Figured I better post some good news lol

Profile picture of Alyne

Alyne

Kendra we have a cruise the day after we fly to Vancouver so I’m still nervous they they will cancel the flight last minute! But so damn cheap I had to take the chance! westjet was double for both trips

Profile picture of Amanda

Amanda

Alyne Boutilier be nervous about swoop until you get on the plane. If they cancel my flight one more time, our whole trip will be cancelled. The swoop posts on FB are filled with mostly terrible reviews...the people who are not getting cancelled flights appear to be the minority.

Profile picture of Alyne

Alyne

Yeah. We will just have to wait and see. I’ll start getting nervous about a week before our trips lol no sense in worrying now

Profile picture of Terri-ly

Terri-ly

Alyne Boutilier just check your junk email the week before. One of mine was cancelled and was sent to my junk. Found out on my way to Edmonton.

Profile picture of Alyne

Alyne

Terri-ly ok thanks
do they give you a list of flights you can re-book?

Profile picture of Terri-ly

Terri-ly

Alyne Boutilier yes they did and most were westjet flights and I didn’t have to pay any extra. Just delayed a few hours as I didn’t see the email right away. All my tickets and updates went to inbox and cancellation went to junk

Profile picture of Alyne

Alyne

Terri-ly thanks so much!

Profile picture of Rosemari

Rosemari

Alyne Boutilier they did change the times of our flight the 1st time we booked, and i did eait on hold for 5 hours once but they fixed it for me which was nice. I only ended up flying with them once and it was delayed but a nice flight!

Something to Keep in mind to everyone.
judging an airline over the horrendous pandemic is just not fair. There was unforeseen obstacles and challenges faced and they had to work the business accordingly, not saying that every situation was the same but definitely something to consider.

There is a Canadian passengers rights group on Facebook. It’s an amazing group of people. The admin guy has spoken in parliament and is on tv regulars. He answers every question. They can’t legally change your itinerary.

I have mixed reviews for swoop..did some quick flights Victoria-Edmonton and other than a couple short delays no big deal. Flew with them to Puerto Vallarta and they cancelled the trip back- they did send out an email to get you on the next west jet flight later that day (all flight changes always go to my junk email even though reservations always go right to my inbox so just FYI to check that) cost of baggage on the new flight transferred over however I paid to upgrade my seat and that did not nor did I ever receive any credit or ever hear back from swoop, annoying but not a huge amount lost. And my last flight Victoria-Edm was delayed 3 times but got us there eventually. In my opinion you can’t beat the price but it can be a risk

I have flown with swoop 7 flights in the last 4 months. Absolutely no issues with them! Only wish/hope they can eventually add more destinations to their schedule.

Profile picture of Lynne

Pre-pandemic we used swoop for a non-stop flight to Orlando. It was an excellent experience and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Profile picture of Carole

Carole

The one issue I had with them was that they have limited flights. When we couldn't land at our destination because of fog and had to return home, I ended up having to cancel my trip for a meeting the next morning. Otherwise, everything was great. I got a full refund.

Profile picture of Lawreen

Lawreen

Thank you for the positive feedback. I have used swoop many times with great experiences as well.

Profile picture of Cindy

Flew with them to Cabo right before the pandemic and it was excellent

Profile picture of Josh

Josh

swoop is fantastic, but I have noticed that they frequently cancel one or two of their vegas flights depending on which flight fills up… usually whichever flight had more expensive tickets to begin with. Then they force you to cut your trip short by a day or two to take an earlier flight that was originally cheaper… with no fare difference reimbursed. Has happened to me about 3 times, 2 pre-covid.

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

Josh that sucks! They only have one flight Sunday and one flight Thursdays on their schedule right now…but that is good info I will have to pay attention!

Profile picture of Josh

Josh

Kendra the flights there are usually fine, but on the way home they often cancel the Friday flight and put everyone on the Thursday. They just did that for March and maybe April about 2 weeks ago. But the planes are clean and everything runs on time, they’re pretty reliable compared to low cost carriers in other parts of the world!

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

Josh brutal!
From my understanding…legally they can not make you take an earlier departure. They would have to rebook you (likely with westjet) for the next available Friday flight. I’m just learning all these rules and stuff so I am prepared in the future.

Profile picture of Bruce

Bruce

Kendra This just happened to us... Our 4 day trip to Vegas is now a 2 day trip...going to cancel and never book with them again.

Profile picture of Heather

Heather

Bruce did they offer to extend your trip and extra day or just to come home when they said? I am booked for sept and I see a lot of cancelled flights right now for august…starting to worry.

Profile picture of Sandy

We went last weekend and swoop changed our return flight from monday to sunday. So we lost a night that we prepaid for.

Megan Curnew yes me too! I’ve always done air canada, but swoop prices I couldn’t pass up. I was also a nervous wreck yesterday when I booked them. Hopefully our flights are great as well.

Profile picture of Jenny

Flown once edmonton to Vancouver no problem. Was going to Vegas during pandemic, they changed the flights so often I cancelled the whole thing! Now flying with them to puerto Vallarta next Friday and they have already cancelled my return flight and put me on one 3 days after I arrived, no thank you. Changed both flights so I still have my weeks holiday but took 4 hours hold on phone to talk to a very nice human. And it’s not cheap/budget. Once to pay the bags and seats it’s almost on par with AC but at least it’s direct. I will be pleasantly surprised if my trip next week goes smoothly. And that should not be how we feel about a flight! Personally I am not impressed with swoop at all. I’m happy for those who have had no issues to date

Profile picture of Mackenzi

Mackenzi

To add on to this, I fly swoop to Vegas whenever I go, and just used them to go to Cabo, I got back on Saturday and it was wonderful there too!

Profile picture of Danielle

Danielle

I used swoop twice this year. Both times they drastically altered the dates that I was flying, for their own convenience. I would not recommend this airline.

Profile picture of Vicki

Vicki

Dani Elle not fair to judge during covid times. ALL airlines have been doing that. It's been crazy.

Profile picture of Danielle

Danielle

This was not due to covid

Profile picture of Benjamin

Good to hear, thank you for the review.
We are planning on using the in June

Profile picture of Wendy

Have used them a few times and it’s hit or miss I find. The big thing to watch is they often change the flight times on you.

Profile picture of Marie

Marie

Thanks for sharing. I have a flight booked to Halifax in July. They were $350 cheaper than westjet - after I picked my extra leg room seats and have checked luggage. They also had better arrival times. westjet was a red eye

Profile picture of Valerie

Flew swoop Pre-covid And no issues. Just flew to and from Cabo. No issues!! I will keep supporting them!

Profile picture of Debbie

Debbie

I just returned from Cabo in swoop. It was excellent’

Profile picture of Amanda

Do Not Trust swoop. It is very hard to change car rentals and accomodation when swoop has changed our flights 3 times since booking. No travel is worth this frustration.

Profile picture of Wendy

Wendy

I love them too! Plus if you want to start the party early and have a few drinks they actually come back as many times as you want to serve you lol

Profile picture of Sheryl

Sheryl

Used them lots to Phoenix and no problem. Also used Flair and no issues. Maybe just lucky. I have had more issues with westjet tbh

Profile picture of Mike

Mike

Flew Edmonton to Halifax. It was hell. Cramped seating . Nothing for free, not even water. Stopped in Hamilton but not allowed to leave plane.
I don't think they fly Edmonton to Vancouver

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

Mike I’m so sorry you had a bad experience. I was fully prepared knowing that everything is extra cost so it didn’t bother me. Our plane was an old westjet plane and we had plenty of space (same as any other airline at least)

Profile picture of Mike

Mike

Kendra I was ready but the difference in seat size was crazy between AC later that year . They would not give water to a girl with no credit card. But like you said , every plane different. And I have a credit to use up

Profile picture of Eva

Eva

Mike I believe they fly into Abbotsford which is about 1 hour east of Vancouver. If you are renting a car it wouldn’t be bad, or if you are staying in the Fraser Valley.

Great to know! Any suggestions where to go for covid antigen test in Vegas. Tx

Profile picture of Kendra

Lorna we opted to still do the naat molecular test from Walgreens as it was free and results were under one hour. I have heard some cvs do the antigen for free? But not too sure.

Side question: what are the vaccination rules to fly to US/and come home to Alberta?

Profile picture of Mary

Mary

Kendra Was it easy and cheap to get the Rapid test to come home?

Profile picture of Kendra

Mary we booked with Walgreens, it was free. I booked a week in advance. However you do need a car as it is a drive thru test. Super easy

I walk thru! Rent a car for 10 minutes to drive thru. Ohhh uber perhaps

Profile picture of Victor

Was carry-on included in the ticket?

Profile picture of Mackenzi

Mackenzi

Victor no, only personal item. Carry on and checked are both extra. Carry on $30 each way, checked $60 each way

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

Victor no we had to pay extra for carry on. It is cheaper to pay well ahead of your flight. It gets more expensive the 24hours prior to flight, and even more at the airport.
Still significantly cheaper than any other airline from Canada though
You are allowed one personal item per passenger for free. I was able to use a medium size tote with no issue, my daughter had a small backpack, and my husband had a laptop briefcase. All free

Profile picture of Toni

Toni

Kendra how do you pay for carry on only at the time of booking? I haven’t been able to figure that out.

Profile picture of Kendra

Kendra

Toni there is an option that comes up…or it did for me anyway. Under extras I believe.
You can also go in after you booked with your confirmation number and add it. As long as you do it prior to the 24 hour mark it is as cheap as it’s gonna get

Our Weekend Trip to Vegas with Swoop Airlines

We just returned from a quick weekend trip to Vegas and decided to try out Swoop Airlines for the first time. And let me tell you, it was honestly great! We had zero issues throughout the entire process.

The flight was on time, the boarding process was smooth, and the flight attendants were friendly and helpful. We saved so much money by booking with Swoop, and the service was just as good as any other airline we've used.

If you're on the fence about booking with Swoop, I highly recommend giving them a try. I was nervous at first since I had never used them before, but I was pleasantly surprised by the experience.

Happy travelling!
