Anyone been to Isla Mujeres? Looking for things to do for a day as we want to go on our own and not part of a tour. Thanks!

Loved it there!! Only got a couple days, but we would have stayed longer. We loved having a golf cart to ourselves for the full day, and driving around, finding hidden beaches and tons of shells. There’s tons of shopping in the town, but so many delightful things to explore just going out and about

I found this beach club we ended up going there everyday ! Get off the ferry turn left walk all the way down white umbrellas. Ask for captain and manny ! Best guys ever .

If you rent a cart make sure you video the entire Vehicle for any damages they say you made and the amount of gas in the vehicle. We Had problems with the return. It was a very lovely place

I went there for a week and stayed in the Shell House. It was amazing. We had the best time staying away from the tourist area at the north end and going into the local areas especially for food. Basto’s grill was amazing. We still dream of that food.
The very southern tip of the island is Punta Sur. It’s a beautiful spot to roam about.
The turtles were a nice little adventure.
Make sure you get a golf cart so you can get around, plus it’s tons of fun!
We did go on the mainland for a cooking class one day to Mexico Lindo. It was the highlight of our trip. https://www.mexicolindocooking.com

Rent a golf cart and explore. Very tiny island

Profile picture of Joe

It's beautiful but small, rather than rent a cart we rented an air conditioned cab and got to do things that most don't, lots of sights to see a little bit of shopping. My favorite thing was jumping in the water with a nurse shark, it only cost a dollar and was one place the taxi driver took us. That said we went to isle mujeres having done no research so there were probably lots of things we missed. The shell house was cool to see

Exploring Isla Mujeres: A Day on Your Own

Ah, the beautiful Isla Mujeres, a gem in the Caribbean Sea just off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. This island paradise is a perfect day trip destination for those seeking a break from the bustling energy of Cancun's resorts. With its laid-back vibe, stunning beaches, and rich cultural heritage, Isla Mujeres offers a wealth of activities for independent travelers looking to venture beyond the usual tour packages.

Getting There

The first step in your Isla Mujeres adventure is to catch a ferry from Cancun. Ferries depart regularly from several points along the hotel zone and Puerto Juarez, making it easy to hop on and enjoy the scenic 20-minute ride across the turquoise waters. Once you disembark at the main ferry terminal in Isla Mujeres, the island's charms await your exploration.

Rent a Golf Cart

The best way to navigate the narrow streets of Isla Mujeres is by renting a golf cart. These compact, open-air vehicles are a popular mode of transportation on the island, and you'll find plenty of rental shops near the ferry terminal. Exploring at your own pace allows you to discover hidden gems and soak in the island's relaxed atmosphere.

Playa Norte

No visit to Isla Mujeres is complete without spending time at the breathtaking Playa Norte. This stunning beach, renowned for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, is a true paradise. Rent a beach chair and umbrella, or simply spread out your towel and bask in the Caribbean sun. The calm, shallow waters make it an ideal spot for swimming and snorkeling, offering a glimpse into the vibrant world beneath the surface.

El Garrafon

If you're seeking a more adventurous experience, consider visiting El Garrafon, a natural park located on the southern tip of the island. This eco-park boasts stunning cliffs, secluded coves, and crystal-clear pools perfect for snorkeling and swimming. You can also explore the coastal trails, zip-line through the lush vegetation, or simply relax on the beautiful beaches.

Explore the Town

After soaking up the sun, take some time to wander through the charming streets of Isla Mujeres' downtown area. Stroll along the malecón (seaside promenade) and admire the colorful street art, or browse the locally owned shops and galleries for unique souvenirs and artisanal crafts. Don't forget to indulge in the island's delicious cuisine, with a variety of beachside restaurants serving fresh seafood and traditional Mexican dishes.

Punta Sur

As the day begins to wind down, make your way to Punta Sur, the southernmost point of the island. This scenic area is home to the iconic El Vigía sculpture, a striking figure overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Explore the ancient Maya ruins and the Isla Mujeres lighthouse, offering panoramic views of the coastline. It's the perfect spot to catch a breathtaking sunset before heading back to Cancun.

With its laid-back charm, natural beauty, and rich cultural offerings, Isla Mujeres is a true gem waiting to be discovered. So, pack your sense of adventure, rent a golf cart, and embark on an unforgettable day exploring this Caribbean paradise at your own pace.
