Planning to go for a trip to South of Italy in August. We are going to spend most of our time around Amalfi coast and Capri.
Would appreciate any tips on what to see/do/eat visit and where to stay. Best way to travel from place to place. Haven't made any plans yet but looking for some interesting and safe suggestions. Thank you!

You can take a ferry from postiano to Capri for the day

I haven't ventured quite that far south in Italy but my one MAJOR tip for traveling in Italy and south of France: always have toilet paper and hand sanitizer with you!! You'd be shocked how I'll equipped some bathrooms there are (especially at train stations/cafes etc). But, it's so beautiful everywhere that it's worth it. Have a great trip!!

Definitely go to Pompeii. We don't typically get tour guides but we thought it would be worth it for Pompeii. We used Rossana with http://www.toursofpompeii.com/ and she was amazing! We wish our tour was longer than the standard 3 hours, I'm sure you can extend. Now we know for next time.

We stayed in Positano which I think was the most beautiful! You can take a ferry to Capri and their bus system is the best way to go between towns. Get a seat on the bus on the water side for stunning views. Ravello is worth a day trip and if you're up for it you can take the bus up and walk back down a very scenic route to Amalfi. We also hiked the Path of the Gods which was spectacular. It's free and took a few hours (plan longer cuz you'll be taking lots of pictures) but if you're in good health it's amazing.

We loved Da Adolfo Restaurant. Make a reservation for lunch and they'll pick you up in a taxi boat. 10 min later and you're there eating delicious food on their private beach!

I took the usual precautions but I felt Amalfi Coast in general was very safe. Be more careful when you take the train to leave or in Naples.

We stayed in Piano di Sorrento and used that as a hub. Stayed for 10 days and from there we took the train everywhere or bus. The main floor of our hotel had two restaurants. One was a pizzeria but the other one was an Italian restaurant that all the locals went. It was amazing. We would eat there whenever we could. I'll try to remember the name of the hotel and I'll post it

We did both. Public transport is well organized in Italy but we spent a lot of time in small towns (where my family lives) and drove from Cinque Terre to Roma. We opted to train to Naples and then hire a driver for the Amalfi Portion of our trip. Renting a car for the Amalfi Coast is a bit sketchy because the road is super windy and only goes one way through Positano town. Public transport or a private driver if you can afford it is probably your best bet!

Driving can actually be quite stressful on the Amalfi coast because the main roads are super narrow and buses pass each other with just inches in between. And parking might be challenging. I would take transit!

I found better prices for hotels on Canadian websites rather than one a quoting prices in euros for the same hotel. (I booked while in Europe so the European sites kept coming up so changed them to .ca)
