We felt safe with our 2.5 year and 7 month old in Playa Del Carmen for 2 months last winter. Mexicans love families

San Diego, great for families. Pick up the Go San Diego pass from Costco, includes lots of activities for one price. Also short direct flights from Calgary which is great with little ones

Did you stay in hotel or airbnb?

Kris we stayed in a hotel, but airbnb would be a great option. I would check it out especially with little ones and cooking some meals

You check Costco online or local Costco can get those passes. We want to add up all the cost to see if it is cheaper to go here or Mexico.

I don't think San Francisco is meant for family vacation. We went twice (of course before we have kids) but don't find the food or things there very attractive.

Huatulco area is awesome. Safe, friendly and less touristy than the Cancun/Playa side.

My husband is from Mexico city. I've traveled all through Latin America and North America. Mexico is by far the safest. The bad areas are in the north along the US Mexico border. Any of the tourist areas are safe and well maintained. My in-laws were just in huatulco and loved it. Dreams resorts and memories resorts make really great affordable family vacations

A cruise is safe and family friendly. All inclusive resorts in Mexico are good too, and many have kids pools, and play areas.

I was debating the same thing earlier this week for our family. I was leaning to a Caribbean cruise.

Kauai. But what do you mean by safe? You can always fall off the cruise ship or drown in the hotel pool. There's no guarantees anywhere.

That's right, a less chance where we get robbed or kids get kidnapped just walking down the street.

Spain is little too long of flights for us...but definitely will keep in mind for when they are older.

Mexico-as some resort are all inclusive. sounds like a good place. Does anyone know where is a good site to look? Is expedia only option? Where to check of any sales going on?

We found a good deal on sunwing.ca to Mexico (PV). There are plenty of family friendly options.
Also, depending if you need ocean or pool, I would recommend Palm Springs (possibly Phoenix). Palm Springs has a living outdoor zoo, a children's museum and plenty of outdoor hiking and pools. The flights are relatively short and you can get great deals. Disneyland is a short drive if you are into that and you can get a deal on tickets from Costco.
If you want to stick closer to home and do not need full heat, Vancouver Island is a great get-away. Go to the outlying areas to avoid touristy costs - we found a place in Bowser that was awesome, beach front and reasonably priced.

We also had friends with twins that went to Cuba and loved it.

All inclusives are a safe bet. Puerto Vallarta has really consistent weather. I've been to the Mayan twice in January and both times had bad weather. Huatulco is really safe and fantastic weather!

There are a lot of family friendly all inclusive resorts in Mexico that have a ton of activities for kids. The good thing about the all inclusive is that you don't have to worry about anything, even hotel transports are covered most times.
I'm a travel agent, if you need any information please let me know:)

Planning a Family Vacation with Little Ones

Traveling with young children can be both rewarding and challenging, but with proper planning, you can create lasting memories while ensuring your family's comfort and safety. Here are some suggestions for a warm, affordable, and family-friendly vacation destination in January.

Destination: Florida

Florida is an ideal winter getaway for families with young kids. With its warm weather, beautiful beaches, and numerous theme parks, it offers a perfect blend of relaxation and entertainment.

Orlando: Theme Park Capital

Orlando is a top destination for families, thanks to its world-famous theme parks like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld. While these parks can be expensive, there are often discounts and package deals available, especially during the off-peak season in January. Consider staying at a hotel near the parks or renting a vacation home to save on costs.

Gulf Coast: Beaches and Family Fun

If you prefer a more laid-back vacation, the Gulf Coast of Florida is an excellent option. Cities like Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Naples offer beautiful sandy beaches, family-friendly resorts, and plenty of outdoor activities. You can enjoy beach days, visit aquariums, explore nature trails, and indulge in delicious seafood.

Tips for Traveling with Young Kids

  1. Pack Essential Gear: Don't forget to bring essentials like strollers, car seats, portable cribs, and plenty of snacks and toys to keep your little ones entertained during travel.
  2. Plan for Naps and Downtime: Kids can get overwhelmed with too much activity. Schedule quiet times for naps and relaxation in your hotel room or vacation rental.
  3. Consider All-Inclusive Resorts: All-inclusive resorts can be a convenient and cost-effective option for families, as they often include meals, activities, and childcare services.
  4. Bring Necessary Documents: Make sure to carry copies of your children's birth certificates, medical records, and any necessary travel documents.
  5. Stay Flexible: While it's important to have a plan, be prepared to adjust your schedule based on your children's needs and energy levels.

No matter where you decide to go, the most important thing is to create lasting memories with your family. With proper planning and a little patience, your vacation with your 1-year-old and 3-year-old can be a wonderful and memorable experience.
