Koh lanta!
Emerald cave tour is super touristy but sooo worth it. Thought it was super cool.
Drew
I'll second koh lanta. We were 2 couples, early 30's, took off from phiphi early cause we didn't feel like partying like 18 year olds and ended up in koh lanta. A bit of a hidden gem, super relaxing, great food, great places to stay.
Lauren
agreed. It was our first destination and was my favourite aside from Samui. Super relaxed, laid back. Lots of good places to eat, cheap shopping.
Jillian
Koh lanta (Long Beach) for a more relaxed atmosphere. I'd spend less time on Phuket unless you prefer the party atmosphere (patong beach)...
Angela
Phuket is over rated in my opinion, we spent a couple nights there and we're uncomfortable the whole time with the dynamics of it. Definitely a place to party if that's what you like though! If you get a chance, I highly recommend railay beach, it was our favourite by far! Lots of adventure and beauty
Jessica
What would you do on railay! That's on the two do list
Angela
There's lots of rock climbing opportunities, view points to free climb up, caves (some with bats), ocean kayaking. When we can we are definitely going back one day!
Angela
Do you Scuba dive? If you have the budget for a liveaboard, they are worth it! Id even do a day trip if you do, the Scuba/snorkeling is fantastic as well! I wanna go back now
Madony
Phuket is an experience if you have never been, a couple of nights is plenty though
Brian
On Koh Phi Phi find the company called Ibex climbers and do the rope free rock climb adventure over the ocean that they offer over on Phi Phi Don.
So much fun.
That whole island (Koh Phi Phi) is awesome, you'll plan for 4 days there and end up spending 10.
Madony
Klong Nin beach is awesome on Koh Lanta, great snorkeling on the south end
Shari
Phuket is lame. Vegas of Thailand, expensive. Just so you know
Amy
Try to go to Chang Mai! On phi phi make sure u go to the other side of the island much quieter and its 10baht for a boat ride. Also do the viewpoint hike up the mountain to get amazing views!
Marilyn
if you're in Krabi, you must go to the Tiger Temple - 1237 steps to the top!
David
Phi phi, Lanta ... if you can get there... Samui and Phangan...
Am there in 4 weeks for the holidays... have fun

Kata beach area is awesome, even if you spend 50$ a night you can get breakfast, a pool ,koi pond and be a 2$ cab ride from the beach although I also stayed at the boat house and another ocean front resort when I was there most of the time. Always wear crocks in the water and bring them along to the Phi Phi Island boat ride to the shore as it is so rocky in the water there you may not be able to go in it much otherwise, and you can step on a syringe in the ocean at any beach. If you need eyeglasses there are many awesome eyeglass stores with designer frames and crizal lenses for a great price in 3 days and they will negotiate! Bring a mosquito net! Also a lot of the beds are like boards.. I bring a cheap light air mattress to 1/2 inflate in case of back issues, also you need prescription there for benadryl but not things like anti virals. Gravol can also help in case of an allergic emergency, the mosquitoes at Patong Beach area provided this for me but not the other areas. Bring a water camera, never drink the water, only bottled water even brushing your teeth. I found it helpful to pay for a translator app to convert English to Thai that they can read in Thai as well just hear, as they seem to know English but their English is actually very limited and in an emergency or" Where can you find Gluten free food?" it would be almost impossible for the average person to really help you! Many locals just nod and pretend they understand a lot but know nothing of what you are really saying! They are very grateful to read in Thai what you are asking! The 3 of us who ate at the markets and street food venders were fine. They are a sweet gentle people but beware of their massages, they do not understand gentle at all it seems, try to get foot messages often though, they are cheap and pretty safe. I think 1 in 10 woman there have HIV I was told so be careful. Have a great time, Oh and buy 3$ elephant pants at night and spray them with deet spray from there if you have mosquito problems. Good luck have fun!
Diana
I'm hoping to leave the end of November as well. Would LOVE any extra tips.
Rosemari
Tell me where you are going , my girlfriend just spent months all over Thailand.
Diana
I'm thinking I will land in Bangkok then go wherever the mood takes me. I want to see elephants but NOT support their captivity where can I do that? Also would love to see some cultural places/things, otherwise relaxation, beach stuff. Maybe also get into Vietnam, Myanmar, and Malaysia. Nothing is firmed up yet. Is it easy to get around? Where to change money? I have always wanted to go to Thailand but for some reason I dont feel so invested in going. Im able to go for 6
Or more weeks and just wondering if I should do South America instead?
Rosemari
She went to Vietnam and Australia on that trip too but not Bali which I hear is awesome. I will ask her, she was gone 5 months.
Jessica
Diane Katherine we went to elephant nature park in chaing Mai, it's a rehabilitation centr, they take abused elephants and give them a home. You get to spend the day with them, feeding them bathing them and walking through the jungle with them. depending what package you choose. It's awsome!!
Diana
Jessica is it expensive? How far is Ching mai from Bangkok? Is there lots of other things to do there before I make my way to south Thailand?
Jessica
It was about $150 I think but well worth it. Forsure. And I've heard really good things about PAI good hikes and a nice place to go for a couple days ( I didn't go there ) and chaing Mai you can deffiantly stay there for s couple days and keep yourself busy!
Rosemari
Hi Diane Katherine , this is what my friend said..
In Bangkok you should see the King's palace, the ruins and china town, oh yea the floating market. They also have a train that goes around the whole city and you. An get on and I found where ever. Getting money is not a problem anywhere. From there we went to Chang Mai and they have special places where they save elephants. We also went into Myanmar and Louse but they let us in only for a day. It is hard to get in. We saw amazing temples everywhere. We then flew to Pouket and did the beach and hang out thing, it was beautiful. We went to Vietnam and it was crazy busy but we went only to Saigon and then left. We then flew to Australia which was 800. For the both of us. My daughter stopped in Japan on her way to meet us and she loved it. Hong Kong was so beautiful and safe. I went for 5 months and I would go back. I have not been to South America yet so I don't know much about it. Taxi are cheep in Bangkok but not so much in Pouket. Hope you have a great time.
Diana
Excellent, thanks so very much

We stayed on Koh Samui and loved it but our favourite place was the River Kwai
Jennifer
We did Bangkok, Chang Mai, Phuket, Koh Samui. We used hotels.com to book rooms and we were happy every time. If you do the elephants book ahead because they were full when we tried to go. We loved it. Have fun!
