Tara At the moment, many flights are not scheduled. JAL goes via Jakarta, and requires a stay in Jakarta in both directions, so one loses two nights.

I went 20 yrs ago and flew singapore airlines that allowed a stopover Singapore.

Hustling is real so be ready to bargain and be on an alert. I was physically attacked by shop owner in Bali who tried to sell beach towel for $100 USD. I tried to take my girlfriend hand and walk out and owner slapped my arm so hard it left bruises. We rented car and driver, only to be told that his car "broke down" and he no longer has car he showed but only 30 year old van with no AC. I gave good tip to surfing instructor before lesson as I didn't want to carry $ around and at the end of the lesson, he gave me death stare for not giving him more tips after lesson was over.

You might wish to check out Sideman. Much less expensive than Ubud, but not as much to do. It really depends on what you want to do: beach, dive, sightseee or just relax.

Robyn Then prepare for big bucks or long daytrips. Although Bali looks small, traveling around is time consuming. The cultural and sightseeing areas around Ubud are not where the beaches are. You might want to divide your time between the north beaches of Lovina and then the area around Penestanan near Ubud. Check out airbnb; villas are listed. The word "Villa" is used for very different sorts of accomodation. Make a list of essentials before you start looking. If you are into nightlife and bars, then Kuta and Seminyak; I steer way clear of that area. Hire a car and driver, as attempting driving is quite crazy. Bookings are hard to get as Bali has reopened and the Aussies and Europeans are coming back in droves. I am having trouble getting what I want for May of 2023.

Use airbnb or vrbo. Thousands of amazing villas.
Avoid kuta, seminyak. Canggu is fun, but don’t stay long and watch your stuff. Lovina is beautiful (don’t do anything with dolphins please!!), ahmed, gili air & lombok have wonderful snorkelling. Sideman is gorgeous for hikes and rice field stays.
