How Do I Obtain E-Tickets for My Trip to Playa?

Question:

My mom and I are heading to Mexico on the 28th of December! We're staying at the Viva Wyndham Maya resort in playa and we booked our trip online with sunwing. We got an invoice email, basically is our receipt, and I in the email it says prior to 28 days before your trip, e-tickets should be available. But this isn't the case since me and my mom didn't pre book our seats (because it's another $80+).
So I'm wondering if we have to pre-book our seats or how do we get these e-tickets? Do we just get our tickets at the airport? Or what do we need to get our flight tickets and what do we need once in Mexico for the transportation to our resort and our flight back home?

As long as your flight is booked & paid for, you will be able to check in & select your seats & get boarding passes 24 hours before departure. If you can’t select your seat at that time, you may need to do it when you arrive at the airport the next day for your flight.

An e-ticket is not your boarding pass

E tickets are just all your paperwork for flights hotels transfers to hotels. Print them out. They just won’t have seats in tgem

Take a photo of your booking information and present along with your passports to get your boarding passes at the airport ... if you want to sit together you may have to choose your seats ahead of time online.

You will get another email a day or two before your flights. With your ticket. And a link to click on and select seats. Usually the day before. Relax. Enjoy !!!!

Call the airline for clarification, it's definitely a better option than crowd sourcing opinions here

I have flown with sunwing before to MX and as long as you have a flight confirmation, you should not have any problems checking-in either online or at the airport. I would still bring a copy of your e-receipt.

I think sunwing only allow you to book in four hours before rather than the customary twenty four.

Agreed. On FB you are only allowed to attack their core beliefs. And if you are under 18, their looks and fashion.

Go into Sunwing.ca and enter your confirmation code. It will bring up your info. You should be able to print off your etickets from there once they are available. As for your seats, that can't be booked until the day before I think, which you could do at the same site or they will just give you at the airport when you check in

I leave this week with them and booking in is four hours before to get free seating.

If your sunwing package includes transfers to/from the airport to resort then they will have a shuttle service to take you to the resort. If it didn't include transfers you will need to negotiate a taxi/shuttle at the airport to resort and then get one back when leaving. Transfers can be costly as we got stuck paying around $90 USD round trip as the taci drivers and companies in Mexico are outright thieves. And if you need a cab to do roundtrip don't pay up front for the full trip as they may not show up for the return and peopke will tell you the transfer is cheaper to negotiate with a taxi at airport but for the few dollars you may save it's not worth the hassle.
But ensure you have transfers included in your package.

good to know! i am fairly certain it contains transfers to and from the airport, but this was very good to know!

I prefer the taxi to the hotel, the bus sits around forever waiting and looking for ever last person (done of whom I'm sure have taken taxis), our bus waited 1.5 hrs for people who ultimately never showed up. Then they stop at every resort to drop people off, not bad if you are at the start, but if your hotel is last this can waste a lot of time. And the kiosks that line the exit of the airport offering excursions and "tourist info" do NOT stop, they just waste your time trying to sell stuff. The hotels all have the same trips available.

Erin thankyou! We have been to Playa Del Carmen a few times before but this is our first time booking a trip without a travel agent. We are well aware the kiosks (which are very aggressive) and know to avoid
thanks for making sure!! The bus rides can tend to be long but we do not mind if it's included in the price, but I go agree! Can be annoying after stopping at every destination.

We just came back from a place between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun last week and taxis were charging a minimum of $50-$55 USD one way so if you do get i.e. try to negotiate it cheaper. Enjoy your trip.

Be prepared to not be able to sit together if you didn't pre book your seats...

aha yes, we do not mind spending 5 or so hours apart
as long as we end up at the same place

Navigating Air Travel and Resort Stay in Mexico

Congratulations on your upcoming trip to Mexico! Booking a vacation can be both exciting and a little confusing, especially when it comes to understanding the logistics of air travel and accommodations. Let's break down what you need to know about getting your flight tickets and handling the transportation to your resort and back.

E-Tickets and Seat Assignments

Since you mentioned that you didn't pre-book your seats, you don't need to worry about e-tickets at this stage. Most airlines issue e-tickets automatically when you book your flight, and you don't need a physical ticket. However, you will need to check in for your flight, either online or at the airport, and obtain a boarding pass.

If you prefer to select your seats in advance, you can typically do so during the online check-in process or at the airport counter. However, this often comes with an additional fee, as you've noted. If you choose not to pre-book seats, the airline will assign seats to you at check-in.

Airport Check-In and Boarding Passes

You'll need to check in for your flight, either online or at the airport. Online check-in usually opens 24 hours before your scheduled departure time, and it's recommended to check in as early as possible to secure better seat assignments (if you didn't pre-book).

During the check-in process, you'll receive your boarding passes, which you'll need to present at the security checkpoint and the gate when boarding the plane. If you check in online, you can either print your boarding passes or have them available on your mobile device.

Transportation to and from the Resort

As for transportation to and from the Viva Wyndham Maya resort in Playa del Carmen, you have a few options:

  1. Private Transfer: Many resorts offer private transfer services from the airport to the resort and back. This is often the most convenient option, but it can be more expensive.
  2. Shared Shuttle: Some companies offer shared shuttle services between the airport and popular resort areas. These are generally more affordable than private transfers but may involve additional stops along the way.
  3. Rental Car: If you prefer the flexibility of having your own transportation, you can rent a car at the airport. However, be mindful of additional fees and insurance requirements.
  4. Taxi: Taxis are readily available at the Cancun Airport, but it's important to negotiate the fare before getting in or opt for an official airport taxi service to avoid being overcharged.

It's a good idea to research and arrange your transportation in advance, as it can be more convenient and cost-effective than trying to figure it out upon arrival.

Enjoy your trip to Mexico, and don't hesitate to reach out to your airline, travel provider, or resort if you have any further questions or concerns.
