A big thing to look for is when they shut down your bar and music. Some make it close down quite early. Worth looking into as a detail. Every resort can be different

We had 50 people come down so my biggest thing was just to visit with everyone during the week and had a common meeting place on the pool deck, people could come and hangout for the day or go on their own. I didn't really get too uptight about everything. My wedding coordinator was great and everything was done and beautiful.
We just made plans with everyone (who wanted to go) what restaurant to meet and what time each night. Again, we didn't make everyone go everywhere as we knew some just wanted a vacation on their own and relaxation for some of the days so I just let it be but was always at the common meeting meeting area on the pool deck in case someone wanted to do something. When I would wander the resort I would always run into someone (4 different pools there 10years ago, more now though) and I'd hang for a drink and visit
We are going back next August for a 10 yr reunion with everyone

Sara Ania I actually had the travel agent do all of that. Just told everyone the dates and the flight and hotel with prices and told them to call the lady I was dealing with. The more rooms and people on the flights it made it cheaper for everyone. Sat down with a travel agent first though and discussed it all. If people wanted another part of the resort or to use air miles they booked themselves.

Also do not book excursions until you get there it's too hard over the phone organizing everyone etc. Make plans by the poolside

My only negative comment is that the "credits" aren't necessarily worth much, depending on how you want to use them. Some of our guests were quite disappointed in trying to use it for golfing, since you ended up spending as much on extras like balls, club rentals, carts etc. as you got credit for. Spa credits are limited. It's ok, but read the fine print or just don't figure the credits into the equation.

Food is great there, it's a lovely resort and they did a good job on all the wedding arrangements. They only thing I might wish we hadn't bothered with was the horse drawn carriage because nobody say the bride in it. The guests are all down on the beach and the horse let the bride out at the top of the hill. Maybe if you're not having a beach wedding it works better.

As a destination wedding photographer, I've seen both positive and negative experiences at two different Mexican resorts. The biggest advice I can give you is to make sure wherever you book isn't constantly trying to get more money from you when you arrive/ make you feel like you are just a factory wedding and constantly speeding you through the wedding day process. Some resorts really want to make the day special; Others are just about money.

Planning a Dream Wedding in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico

If you're considering tying the knot in a tropical paradise, the Mayan Riviera in Mexico is an absolute gem. With its stunning beaches, rich culture, and vibrant atmosphere, it's no wonder many couples choose this destination for their special day. In this blog post, we'll explore the ins and outs of booking a wedding in the Mayan Riviera, based on firsthand experiences.

Choosing the Perfect Venue

The Mayan Riviera boasts an array of breathtaking venues, from beachfront resorts to lush jungle retreats. Popular choices include the picturesque seaside towns of Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Akumal. Many all-inclusive resorts offer comprehensive wedding packages, making the planning process seamless.

When selecting a venue, consider factors such as the desired ambiance, guest capacity, and availability during your preferred wedding date. It's advisable to book well in advance, especially for peak seasons, to secure your dream location.

Legal Requirements and Paperwork

Before embarking on your wedding planning journey, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with the legal requirements for getting married in Mexico. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

  • Valid passports for both parties are mandatory.
  • Obtain a marriage license from the local civil registry office (oficialĂa del registro civil) in the town where you plan to wed.
  • Provide necessary documents, such as birth certificates, divorce decrees (if applicable), and blood test results.
  • Hire a bilingual wedding coordinator or legal representative to assist with the paperwork and ensure compliance with local laws.

Cultural Experiences and Excursions

While planning your dream wedding, don't miss out on the unique cultural experiences the Mayan Riviera has to offer. Explore ancient Mayan ruins like Tulum and Chichen Itza, or immerse yourself in the vibrant local markets and culinary delights.

Many resorts and local tour operators offer excursions and activities for couples and their guests, such as snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, or exploring underground cenotes (natural sinkholes). These adventures not only create lasting memories but also allow you to truly embrace the region's rich heritage.

Final Thoughts

Booking a wedding in the Mayan Riviera is an unforgettable experience that combines natural beauty, cultural richness, and romance. With proper planning, attention to legal requirements, and a willingness to embrace the local customs, you can create a truly magical celebration that you and your guests will cherish forever.

Remember to book well in advance, enlist the help of professionals, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of this incredible journey to your happily ever after.
