Had decent experiences with china eastern, older planes but I got upgraded to business for free on an overnight which was really sweet.
Amit
I've only flown china eastern domestic in China from personal experience and it was average. Always on time and planes seemed to be up to date so no complaints here. Friend of mine used them for Shanghai to YVR last year and didn't mind it.

How about Eva Air ?
RJ
Eva is amazing! Much better than Air Canada.
Bernard
Have you looked at getting a flight to Tokyo, then taking a bullet train to Osaka? There are more flights to Tokyo because both Haneda and Narita airports have international flights.
Daniel
Well, I took delta to China and Japan just now, and it was good. Talked to some people about china eastern, they said it wasn't anything to brag about but not any more terrible than United or air canada. Honestly, I traveled on dozens of airlines to the 25 countries I've been to and the only one worse than air canada has been domestic Aeroflot, so I'm sure you'll be fine.
Bernard
That, or get 2 multi-city tickets with united airlines (one with Beijing, one with Osaka), and then a one way fare on Air Asia Japan.
Steven
Flew eva air this past septembef. Great airline.
Hamdani
Steven where did you go last September ?
Steven
Hamdani flew to malaysia for michaels fathefs funeral
Hamdani
Oh I am sorry to hear that, pass my belated condolences to michael.
Rhonda
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Cheap is great but I am willing to pay a little more, especially on a long haul. Never heard of Eva. Will check it out
John
Flew china eastern from Toronto to Beijing. Don't recommend it. Uncomfortable and ... just don't do it.
Emil
Flew china eastern last year - no problems. On time, friendly service, full amenities on the plane. It's not Malaysia or singapore airlines, but it's not air canada either.
Andy
Peach airlines within Japan and to and from nearby Asian cities is the best deal. If you sign up on their site you get notifications for domestic flights as cheap as 20 one way. E.g.. Tokyo to Osaka.

Choosing an Airline for Toronto to Osaka: China Eastern Airlines or Air China?
By [Your Name]
If you're planning a trip from Toronto to Osaka this summer, you may be considering airlines other than the familiar Cathay Pacific for your eastbound journey. Two Chinese carriers, China Eastern Airlines and Air China, are potential options, but how do they compare? Let's dive into the experiences of fellow travelers to help you make an informed decision.
China Eastern Airlines
China Eastern Airlines is one of the major airlines in China and operates a significant number of flights between North America and Asia. Here are some insights from passengers who have flown with them:
- The in-flight service is generally considered decent, with attentive and friendly crew members.
- The food quality varies, with some passengers praising the Chinese meal options and others finding them lackluster.
- The entertainment system and in-flight amenities are basic but functional.
- Seat comfort and legroom are often cited as acceptable for long-haul flights, though not exceptional.
- On-time performance and baggage handling can be hit or miss, with some reporting delays or mishandled luggage.
Air China
Air China is the flag carrier of China and another popular choice for flights between North America and Asia. Here's what travelers have to say about their experiences:
- The in-flight service is generally praised, with friendly and attentive crew members.
- The food quality is often described as good, with a variety of Chinese and Western options.
- The entertainment system and in-flight amenities are typically modern and well-maintained.
- Seat comfort and legroom are generally considered adequate for long-haul flights.
- On-time performance and baggage handling are typically reliable, though some passengers have reported delays or lost luggage.
Both airlines offer competitive pricing and have codeshare agreements with other carriers, which can provide more routing options and flexibility. However, it's worth noting that neither China Eastern Airlines nor Air China is part of a major global alliance like Star Alliance or Oneworld, which may be a consideration if you prefer to earn and redeem miles with a specific frequent flyer program.
Ultimately, the choice between China Eastern Airlines and Air China will depend on your personal preferences and priorities. If you value in-flight entertainment and amenities, Air China may have a slight edge. If you're more focused on affordability and don't mind a more basic experience, China Eastern Airlines could be a cost-effective option. Regardless of your choice, it's always a good idea to research recent reviews and experiences from fellow travelers before booking your flight.
