Going to Japan tomorrow should I get yens here or in Japan for better rate?

The best rate will be to get some Yen at vbce here in Vancouver prior to going.

Are you exchanging USD or CAD? That makes a difference in rate. If you have a hard currency you'll fare better than with the loonie over there.

which currency you are trading doesn't matter. USDJPY or CADJPY, CADJPY rate is implied from USDCAD and USDJPY. It is all the same.

Those who tell you to withdraw from an ATM have never been to Japan.
You can't use your bank card here. Credit cards aren't as widely accepted either. Bring cash.
Better to exchange USD to yen at this time. If it's CAD then it's still better to exchange there than here. You will get taken advantage of here.

Tommy. I went to japan many time, and I did an exchange there for half year in Nagoya University. I have absolutely no problem withdrawing money from most of the ATM anywhere in japan. Mostly I use the ATM at Lawson and 7-11.

I can use my PC debit card to withdraw cash from CitiBank ATM in Shinjuku

We were in Japan last year and again in March. We also had no problem withdrawing money from an ATM at the 7-11, from both our Canadian and U.S. bank accounts.

I lived in the rural countryside for 3 years and 3 years in an urban setting.....you can use ATMs at convenience stores and the ATMs at post offices (beware of their business hours). You can also widely use credit cards.

I had such a hard time taking out money in Japan .. Only bank I could use was Citibank

If you stay in Tokyo, sure you'll find some. Good luck trying to take money out in other places like Kyoto.

i must have a lot of luck cus i was able to use it in Takayama, Gero, Tateyama, Kyoto, Nagoya, Ise-Toba. Maybe u should contact your bank to see if they have a restriction on your card.

I had issue with my td card cause I had the old card but my rbc was usable everywhere.
