Planning a trip to Turkey for 10 days in early July. We have Istanbul Istanbul & Cappadocia on our wish list for now. I would like to visit one more city or area. We are a group of 4 adults & one teenager. Any suggestions woukd be greatly appreciated. Also, what are the best options for travelling from one city to the other?

Their bus system is awesome! So impressive to get around the country. Lots to see and do in Istanbul, so I wouldn’t add another city in my opinion if you are also going to Cappadocia . Take a public ferry up the Bosporus from Istanbul to the edge of the Black Sea for a day trip.

Ephesus. The best ancient ruins of a whole city. Amazing. Definitely one of our highlights of turkey… And we had two weeks and drove 2500 km. Do the hot air balloons out of Cappadocia… Totally worth it. One of the top two spots in the world. We stayed in an ancient rural sustainable village about 20 miles out of Cappadocia… In a cave house. amazing.
Also, the country is larger than we imagined… So I would n’t spread yourself too thin for only 10 days.

Their bus system is amazing. When we went they served tea and cookies!
We went to a lively small town called Kas on the Mediterranean coast. There are boat trips to an underwater city. If you’re outdoors people we drove with our 2 teens to the Saklıkent Gorge for a day hike. Gorgeous.
Also saw an underground city on a tour out of Cappadocia.

Go to Izmir! The downtown market is incredible. Also Pamukkale! A mountain that leaks hotsprings with an amazing archeology site at the top.

Is while in Istanbul is it good to book stay in Fatih district? Are there any things to be alert about when making booking? Which websites would be the best to book stay? Thanks

Bodrum. Beautiful town by the sea, 30min cab ride from the Bodrum airport. Istanbul and Cappadocia both will be full of exciting things to do, so staying just by the sea for a few days will be a good balance. Alternatively - Fethiye or Oludeniz to add tandem paragliding above turquoise lagoon just for fun. And the sea there is warm and amazing there too. It will be longer ride from Dalaman airport, around 40min. July is crazy hot and sunny, pack lots of sun protection. To travel within Turkiye just fly turkish airlines. They have great domestic service and are pretty cheap by Canadian standards. Also I recommend getting guided tours in Istanbul. The city is jam packed with history and it is much more fun to explore with a guide. When arriving and flying from Istanbul, try to fly to and from IST, not SAW. SAW is old, packed, and longer drive from city centre

There’s also a hop on hop off at the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. I usually stay at the Deluxe Golden Horn in old Sultanahmet, amazing views of the Bosphorus too. (There’s a few with the same name so do make sure to get the Deluxe part). Booking directly with the hotels is best. You can walk or bus or take the ferries from close by. Then you can see everything and relax. I’ve driven from Adana up to Goreme and across to Pammukale and down the coast to Antalya and back to Adana with a rental car. Super cheap and convenient to stop when and where you want. I personally prefer the southern coast of Turkiye myself. Not so touristy and much cheaper!

Planning a 10-Day Trip to Turkey

Turkey is a beautiful and diverse country with something to offer everyone. From the bustling metropolis of Istanbul to the serene landscapes of Cappadocia, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

If you're planning a 10-day trip to Turkey, here are a few suggestions for how to spend your time:

  1. Day 1-3: Istanbul
  2. Start your trip in Istanbul, the vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of Turkey. Visit the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar. Take a boat tour of the Bosphorus Strait and enjoy the city's lively nightlife.

  3. Day 4-6: Cappadocia
  4. Next, head to Cappadocia, a region known for its unique rock formations and fairy chimneys. Take a hot air balloon ride over the landscape, visit the Goreme Open Air Museum, and hike in the Rose Valley.

  5. Day 7-9: Pamukkale
  6. From Cappadocia, travel to Pamukkale, a natural wonder known for its white travertine terraces. Visit the ancient ruins of Hierapolis and swim in the thermal pools.

  7. Day 10: Ephesus
  8. On your final day, visit Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world. Explore the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, the Library of Celsus, and the Great Theater.

Transportation

The best way to travel between cities in Turkey is by plane. There are many low-cost airlines that operate flights between major cities. You can also travel by train, but it will take longer and is less comfortable.

Accommodation

There are a wide variety of accommodation options available in Turkey, from budget hostels to luxury hotels. You can find something to fit your budget and needs.

Food

Turkish cuisine is delicious and varied. There are many different dishes to try, from kebabs to mezzes. You can find restaurants serving all types of cuisine, from traditional Turkish to international.

Budget

Turkey is a relatively inexpensive country to travel in. You can expect to spend around $50-100 per day, depending on your budget. This includes accommodation, food, transportation, and activities.

Tips

  • Learn a few basic Turkish phrases.
  • Be prepared for the heat, especially in the summer months.
  • Respect Turkish culture and customs.
  • Have fun!
