air canada has a direct to Tokyo. As for traditional cities, Nikko is awesome. We also used the Tokyo Free Guides (volunteers who take tourists around). In Kyoto, we stayed at a hotel in the main train station, which has awesome restaurants, and is convenient for tours.

I think Kyoto, Nara and Tokyo are the most popular cities to visit. I usually fly with air canada. United airline is usually a little cheaper. You could fly with China airlines and stay in Shanghai before heading to Japan. I avoid going home in summer though, it is too hot lol
Michelle
I enjoyed Nagasaki, but that is far in the south, and yes, I agree avoid there in the summer, it was super hot!
Justin
Thanks, I always appreciate advice.

Japan is best to visit in spring or autumn. When are airline prices cheaper spring or autumn?
John
I saw a posting that flights are now available from Canada to Haneda Airport which is Closer to Tokyo than Narita Airport, but only one flight per day. Because there is only one flight per day is this option more expensive than flying to Narita Airport?
John
