Heading to Thailand for 6 weeks in Jan/Feb. Any suggestions~positive or negative would be greatly appreciated.
Will be island hopping on east coast for majority.
No full moon parties were over 55...
May include a visit to one of the neighbouring countries. Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Burma or Cambodia.

Malaysia is nice too but where you go, if you do, will be determined by what you’re after in Malaysia (beach or city?)

Just need to go to a neighboring country to increase time on our visa in Thailand. So northern tip of Malaysia best. Beach of course. Snorkelling and (diving perhaps)

Shangri-la in kuala Lampor is amazing and reasonably priced.
Go to jog phagnan but go 4 days after the fullmoon party. It’ll be so quiet and low key.
Samui is, of course, great fun but it can be busy. There again, after the full moon party is better

We love Bubbles Dive resort on the Perhentian island, not glamourous, but the owners are cool, it isn't halal, the beach/reef is private, and they run their own turtle hatchery. Very rustic accommodation but we've been a few times. However just occurred to me it might still be closed for monsoon season.

We took a first class train trip from Bangkok to Chaing Mai and still laugh over the experience,

My son and friend did also 6 ft 2 and just a tad cramped.

Koh Samui is so beautiful, And quiet! you can fly there
good if you’re looking to get away and relax. Thailand is full of hustle and bustle, but it’s a not so busy island. And if you’re really feeling adventurous, you can take a ferry past koh phangan (full moon party island) and go to koh Tao!

Chiang Mai is a must!! It’s amazing. And koh toa also my favourite island

Chiang Mai for sure!! You can fly there for cheap, much faster and more comfortable than the train. I stayed at an amazing Guesthouse there that was walking distance to so much! I also loved Koh Lanta.

We went to borocay islands in the Philippines from Thailand which was really nice. Ao nang in the krabi resort near Phuket was also nice.
