It’s our anniversary on 12th May and we are looking to head out somewhere close by for a night with our 7 months old. We live in Surrey. Any recommendations ?

What kind of recommendations are you looking for and if it's restaurant related- are you vegetarian or vegan?

Places to drive around and stay for a night. Also, we are vegan, any restaurant recommendations will be great too. Since we didn’t plan ahead, we may even get out for the long weekend the week after.

Harrison hot springs. Down town vancouver. Weather all week is nice go to whistler or seattle

Jasbir I second Harrison. Close to where you live and who wants to drive a long way with a 7 month old! Stay at the resort, only place with the actual hot pools. The public one is awful.

I would suggest the Harrison Hot Springs Resort, Semiahmoo Resort, or come into Vancouver.

Harrison hot springs resort or Seattle would be my choice. La Connor in Washington is good for one night. They have the tulips growing there and the calico cafe is great for lunch.

Whistler is relatively in-expensive this time of year. delta Hotel is nice, slog Pan Pacific.

Tigh-Na-Mara Resort in Parksville. Spectacular beach for wee ones. Nice restaurants near by or in the Resort and Grotto Spa.

No way. Tigh Na Mara is a dump and the beach is a black muddy, smelly mess. The Grotto Spa looks lovely online and in person, but the water is cold. It’s ridiculous how the website refers to it as “warm” water and recommends cooling down in the “cool splash cascade”. The water is cold and the cascade is freezing. Super unpleasant. Also, it is not a natural hot spring like Harrison. It’s artificially mineralized.

I agree with Harrrison. Great for families and close to home for you.

Last year for my Husband birthday we had a weekend in White Rock overlooking the beach. It felt like a real get-away and no ferry expense. We live in New Wesminster so it was only about a 40 minute drive.

Best time to go up to Whistler since it’s off peak season and also to take advantage of the Spring dining specials.

Carrie McLellan Haqq the Island is SOOOO expensive in the spring/summer. We were looking for a short trip for my birthday the end of May.
We ruled it out because there are better alternatives.

Whistler has last minute deals, suite secrets etc plus a good choice of restaurants. Just make sure you’re in Whistler Village (upper or lower) not Creekside if you prefer to walk most places. There is a free Shuttle bus from between the upper an lower village, the loop is on the road above the mountain bike park.
Try these 2 sites run by the resort: https://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/.../last-minute-deals.aspx OR https://www.whistler.com/deals/

Also, this place is great, 10 nice cabins along a river so not great for little but yours is still a babe so should be fine. Train goes by at far edge of large property, always an issue in the Squamish Valley. A good selection of restaurants in Squamish and there’s a good one one the property if it’s open. Best to call and see what they’ve got for you! http://www.sunwolf.net/squamish-cabin-rentals/

Anniversary Celebration with a Baby in Surrey

Congratulations on your anniversary! Celebrating a special occasion with a young baby can be a bit challenging, but it's definitely possible to have a memorable night out nearby in Surrey.

Local Restaurant Options

Here are a few family-friendly restaurant recommendations in Surrey that could make for a nice anniversary dinner with your 7-month-old:

  • The Ivy Café, Cobham: This stylish restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere and a baby-friendly menu. The outdoor seating area is perfect for warm evenings.
  • The Black Swan, Ockham: A traditional pub with a cozy and welcoming ambiance. They offer high chairs and a children's menu, making it a great option for families.
  • The Rubbing House, Epsom: This gastropub features a beautiful garden and a menu with plenty of options for all dietary preferences, including vegetarian and gluten-free choices.

Outdoor Activities

If you'd prefer to spend some time outdoors, Surrey has several beautiful parks and gardens that could be suitable for your anniversary celebration:

  • RHS Garden Wisley: Stroll through the stunning gardens and enjoy a picnic in the picturesque surroundings. The gardens are stroller-friendly, and there are plenty of areas to sit and relax.
  • Painshill Park: This 18th-century landscaped garden is a true hidden gem in Surrey. Pack a blanket and a basket of snacks, and enjoy a lovely afternoon in the park.
  • Riverhill Himalayan Gardens: These beautiful gardens offer a peaceful escape, with walking trails and stunning views. There's a café on-site where you can grab a bite to eat.

Tips for Celebrating with a Baby

Here are a few additional tips to help make your anniversary celebration with a 7-month-old enjoyable:

  • Plan around your baby's nap and feeding schedule to minimize fussiness.
  • Pack plenty of distractions and toys to keep your little one entertained.
  • Dress your baby in comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing.
  • Don't forget essentials like diapers, wipes, and a changing mat.
  • Consider splitting your celebration into two parts: a daytime outing followed by a romantic dinner after your baby has gone to bed.

Whichever option you choose, the most important thing is to relax, cherish the moment, and create beautiful memories together as a family.
