Looking for some advice for travelling to Japan, not only for sight-seeing, but also skiing. Has anyone done it all in 2 weeks? Where is the best place to start and finish?

You can definitely do top to bottom in 2 weeks. The JR rail pass is an amazing thing. I did 3 weeks and went all over the main island. But, i spent an entire week in Osaka and several days in Nagoya area. So I'm sure you could easily go Hokkaido to Okiniwa in a couple weeks.

Have a look at Kusatsu-machi, Agatsuma-gun Gunma. It is were native Japanese people go it is also know for there hot bath houses. My daughter lives in Japan.

For a snowboard trip in Japan in 9 nights / 10 days my itinerary was:.
3 nights: Tokyo
2 nights: High speed train to the Nagano area (to check out the snow monkeys) + skiing at Nozowaonsen
4 nights: Flew to Sapporo (CTS) from MMJ. Checked out Sapporo + skiing at Niseko and Rusutsu, plus flew back to Tokyo for the flight home.
So I would say 7 nights minimum just for checking out Tokyo + skiing + potentially getting back to Tokyo. But it depends on how much skiing you want to do
Leaves you with another 6-7 nights for maybe 2 other places?
I think there's a lot of ground to cover when it comes to Japan, and trying to see it all in 2 weeks even without a ski trip would be pretty tough.

We did two weeks in Japan last year. We did 4 days Tokyo then bullet train to Kyoto for 4 days. Then bullet train to Osaka (I think), where we flew to Sapporo and rented a car (this day was busy but went without a hitch). Skied the most amazing snow ever at Moiwa lodge. Stayed 4 days then flew back to Tokyo and on to Calgary. It was a perfect amount of city, culture and skiing.

We shipped our skis on ahead to Hokkaido when we landed in Tokyo. It's a great system.

Hi FondaI am wondering if you can tell me if I can use a Canadian debit card in Japan? I have heard the 711 and the post office have machines tgat accept cards that have circus.. thx

I don’t think we debited but we did use our bank cards to take out cash at the ATMs in the 711.
