All inclusive suck big time. I travel with my husband now but would go in a heart beat to this cool village north of Manzanillo called La Manzanilla. Also Sayulita N of PV is safe. Surf town

Waikiki, for me, very safe, cop shop on the beach, can go to the other side of the island for quieter times - even by bus.. best place by far

Jeannette I understand that's your opinion . It's not everyone's .
There were several ladies that made friends on the plane, at the resort. Everyone was very welcoming .

Yeah I'm not fond at the idea of resorts but fond of the idea of Cuba!

Lisa the real Cuba is not beaches and tropical but it's interesting old town Havana and a few places to go. I would not recommend as a solo get away. It more of travel that a holiday. Different thing.

Lisa I think you'd enjoy PV. Explore. Get a day pass to the pool at the Tropicana. Take the bus to La Boca for a day. Do the same to sayulita for a day.

I totally agree. So much to do and see in a real colonial town. Stay in the old town or south of the river. Totally safe

Thailand!!

That was my original plan! But a few people have told me not to go alone now
high crime rates....a girl got sexually assaulted by a tour guide even....I'm hesitant about it now which sucks because I have huge dreams to go to Thailand solo
I have heard though that Chiang Mai is safe for solo females so I guess there's hope!

Lisa I have been to both in 2012 and travelled there for one month alone. I never felt unsafe once! It was one of the best trips of my life and if you stay in hostels you will always have awesome people to hang with. People and reading online had me worried before I left but I am SO glad I went! I've been back to Asia (Vietnam and Philippines) this past December by myself and it was awesome too. Don't miss out on the adventure because of fear

That's amazing Kelsey thank you so much, you inspired me to grab hold of that dream again. I do think its unfair just because I am of the female gender that I can not enjoy travelling solo, that shouldn't be the case at all. Unfortunately it is with some countries of course, but thank you for the reassurance on Thailand

Key to travelling safe as a solo person, guy or gal, is to not go anywhere with local strangers. Different if they are fully vetted tour guides or drivers as opposed to someone approaching you and asking you where you want to go. Street smarts is what it is about and don't be out too late at bars and pubs by yourself. Stick to busy areas and you should be ok.
