Will look into it! Thanks!

Rent a car and go to Quebec City. It's 2.5 hours away and so beautiful and historic.
Lara
Train is cheap if you book in advance and so convenient too! Hard to park in Quebec City unless outside of downtown limits.
Steven
Have a car rented! Will check it out! Thanks
Lara
Steven From there drive to Île d’Orléans and the waterfall. Don’t recommend a car the rest of the time as it’s easier to walk. Make sure you have parking arranged. I lived there for three years

Parliament hill ottawa

Shopping on St. Catherine's is always good. There's a little tourist/ice cream stand next to Birks that has great maple butter soft serve ice cream...worth finding it! Smoked meat at Schwartz's, the archaeological museum Pointe-à-Callière is good ( https://pacmusee.qc.ca/en/ ), wandering Vieux Port, St. Denis street for the patios. If you're thinking day trips, Ottawa is a two-hour drive away, and Québec City is 3 (or maybe more depending on traffic, but so worth it...amazing). If you have kids with you, do the Granby Zoo (awesome zoo and also a water park with wave pool and lazy river). No matter where you end up, you'll take in the different architecture (such as iron staircases up to the second floor outside) and the vibe, it's great! Love Montreal.

Schwartz's for sure and St. Viateur Bagel

Good call, I always go there but forgot to mention it! Mmmm hot bagels with cream cheese...just dip and eat!
Lara
Go to Quebec City for a night! Otherwise shop downtown, go to the old port, Mont Royal, get yourselves some bagels...

Atwater market, be sure to have lunch at satay brothers if you go! For eating some of my faves are kazu, Lawrence, foxy, vin papillon, olive + gourmando, dominion square tavern. For drinks, big in Japan (the hidden bar not the resto, do a little research for the location), Henrietta, le majestique, le mal nécessaire, and the rooftop bars at hotel Nelligan or hotel place d’armes. For late night, apt 200 or kampai. Bota bota is a cool spa on a boat in the old port if you’re in to that. Mont Royal definitely worth checking out! Make sure you eat lots of poutine

Jean Talon market...huge outdoor marker with specialty stores. Cheese/pate/pork.
Mile End...oldest bagel store, hip coffee shops. Walk up the top of Mount Rpyale dor a beautiful view of the city below. You will see lots of outdoor entertainment and festivals on random streets. Montreal is a great walking city and if you're a foodie, you're in for a treat!
Recommend Magpie restaurant (there are 2)...awesome pizza and great oysters!
Heather

Plateau area and Mile End were great for wandering and shopping and of course eating! Au peid du Cochon lived up to its reputation and was amazing, and Schwartz’s for smoked meat! Waking up Mont Royal for sunset was a beautiful time, and a little less smoking hot as well.

Every Monday evening there is something called “Hillbilly Night” at the Wheel Club. It has been going on for about 60 years and is very much a Montreal must see event. You will be delighted with Old Time music and line dancing. Mostly English but the occasional French performer

don’t miss the pancakes over at Arthurs Nosh Bar. I’m not even a pancake person but these were game changers... and the triple done salt and vinegar fries. My best brunch of 2018! Haha

When you're in old Montreal (and you must go there), be sure to stop in at the Notre Dame Basilica. Many people think it is "just another church" but it has been the highlight of my visits to Mtl, and many people who I have recommended it to have said the same! MUST see
